Austin Bergstrom International Airport Train Transfers
There are several modes of transport from Austin International Airport to destinations around Austin, in Texas, including car rentals, taxis, buses, and rideshares.
The Austin MetroRail is 15 kilometers away from the airport at 4th & Trinity Streets in downtown Austin, Texas.
There is a proposal to connect the airport to the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority Blue Line light rail, which will run through the East Riverside Corridor to Downtown Austin and The University of Texas at Austin and North Lamar.
It may be completed as early as 2029. The project was approved by voters in November 2020.
The Metro Rail
Taxi is one of the best ways to move from Austin Airport. A one-way trip from Austin Airport to Downtown Austin MetroRail Station (and vice versa) costs around $33 for 14 minutes. Taxi ranks can be found outside the airport ground level of both terminals.
Alternatively, the Capital Metro Airport Bus to Downtown Austin departs outside of the Baggage Claim area (far right end of the landside terminal) runs every 15 minutes and takes up to 35 minutes.
Currently, the fare is $1.75 and you need exact change. The bus accommodates baggage.
At the Downtown Station, you can transfer to MetroRail. The new Downtown Station and adjacent plaza enhance the area's public space. Its primary function is to make easy connections between MetroRail and other types of transportation.
At MetroRail, customers are able to connect to:
- Local MetroBus service (Route 17 on Cesar Chavez and Route 4 on 7th St.)
- MetroBike
- Electric Cab
- Car-share
- Scooters
- Austin's bicycle trails
The MetroRail Red Line Route 550 runs between Downtown and Leander Stations. The station platforms have schedule information for transfer to the MetroBus, and more.
